Most visits are several of these at once, and the drive costs the same either way.
North Westwood Village runs on the school calendar. Leases there begin and end in the same few weeks around late September, with a smaller wave in June, and everyone needs the same short list at once. Sending yours in August is the useful move.

Three Westwoods behind the paint
Most of the Village apartments went up in the sixties and seventies: drywall over wood studs, brackets that land where the stud finder says. The towers along Wilshire are concrete with metal-stud partitions, where a wood screw feels tight going in and works loose six months later, so they take a toggle rated for the load.
North and west of campus, Little Holmby and Westwood Hills are 1920s and 30s Spanish and Colonial houses with plaster over wood lath. Rush a mount there and it blows out in a cone, so we look for real framing first.
Village parking and shared apartments
In the Village the wall is the easy part and getting to it is the problem: parking is scarce, and in late September the curbs fill with moving trucks. Tell us what access looks like before the day. A lot of units come furnished or get sublet over summer, so what is in the room may not be yours, and damage gets shared four ways. Put the whole list on one visit and split it however the lease says.
Outside what we do in Westwood
When a job clearly reaches $1,000, or needs a permit, it needs a licensed contractor.
- A new circuit or an outlet behind the TV, which is electrician’s work in any building.
- Plumbing that opens a wall or reaches a shared line in a stacked building.
- Sanding a door and jamb in a pre-1978 Little Holmby house without a certified renovator.
If the work grows once we have seen it, we stop and tell you before it goes any further.

- Cross streets: Landfair and Strathmore is a different building and parking problem from Wilshire and Comstock.
- Your move-in or move-out date, and whether the landlord has said yes to holes in the wall.
- Photos of the boxes and the wall they’re going against, added to the form.
