Inglewood has four kinds of wall and they don’t sort neatly by street. That decides whether a TV goes up in an hour or in three, so we ask about the wall before anything else. If you don’t know which you have, tap the wall, tell us roughly when the building went up, and add a photo.

The four walls you find in Inglewood
A lot of the 1940s housing is rock lath with a plaster skim. It looks like drywall, bites differently under a screw and sends a hole saw off line, and a patch has to be built up to depth. The stucco fourplexes and courtyard apartments through Morningside Park, Centinela and the Darby-Dixon blocks are drywall over studs, the straightforward case.
Near downtown Inglewood and up through North Inglewood there are older blocks of true plaster over wood lath, where we look for real framing instead of trusting a beep, and patching is a different job from drywall. Everything new around the stadiums and the transit line is concrete with metal-stud partitions, which takes its own anchor.
Event days, carports and batching the list
On the single-family streets there is usually a driveway. Around the apartment blocks off Manchester, Market Street, La Brea, Centinela and Prairie it is street parking and tuck-under carports, and on a game or concert day the streets around the stadiums fill up for the afternoon, so tell us if your date lands on one. Owners in the single-family blocks can put the outdoor half of the list on the same visit: gutters, a gate, a door sweep.
Inglewood jobs we don’t take on
When a job runs past the exemption, on price or on a permit or on any of the other conditions, it is work for a licensed contractor.
- A new circuit, panel work, or anything scorched behind an old fixture, which is an electrician’s call.
- Opening a wall or touching a shared line in a fourplex, which in a rental usually isn’t yours to authorize.
- Disturbing paint in a pre-1978 home without a certified renovator, and most of the homes here are that old.
If the work grows once we have seen it, we stop and tell you before going any further, and you get a fresh price with no charge for the look.
