Palms is almost all rented apartments, and people move constantly, which produces a very predictable set of jobs. Moving in, the TV needs mounting and the bed is still in three boxes. Moving out, everything that went into the wall has to come back out and the wall has to look like nothing happened.

Dingbats, and the odd old bungalow
Most of Palms is sixties and seventies dingbats, two or three stories of wood frame over an open carport, with drywall walls that behave the way the instructions say. A few Craftsman and Spanish bungalows survive between them, and those are plaster over lath. Older buildings here can have two wires and no ground in the ceiling, so a fixture swap sometimes stops and becomes an electrician’s job.
Street parking and third-floor walk-ups
Palms is street parking and it’s tight, so a two-hour job can grow by a fifteen-minute circle of Vinton, Regent or Woodbine. Say whether there’s a guest space in the carport, and whether it’s a walk-up, especially if the thing going up the stairs is a 65-inch screen. If you own or manage the unit and are turning it between tenants, say so, because the holes, the paint touch-ups and the door usually come as one batch.
Not for a handyman visit in Palms
